ADRIANO MARTINOLLI D’ARCY is an orchestra conductor of international background and vocation: he was born in Trieste, Italy, in 1961 and he is both Italian and British citizen.
After his Composition and Choir Conducting studies at the Music Conservatory of Trieste and Milan, he moved to Vienna where he graduated in Orchestra conducting at the Music Academy of Vienna in 1991. Two years later he attended a specialization course in Berlin.
At the head of important ensembles such as the Orchestra Sinfonica della RAI of Milan, the Philharmonia Orchestra of London, the N.Ö. Tonkunstlerorchester of Vienna, the Philharmonic Orchestra of Graz, the Württembergische Philharmonie of Reutlingen, the Orquestra Metropolitana of Lisbon, the Bruno Maderna Symphony Orchestra, the Orchestra dei Pomeriggi musicali of Milan, the Orchestra Filarmonica del Teatro G.Verdi of Trieste, and many others groups, he conducs both traditional and contemporary repertoire as well as numerous first performances, giving concerts in Italy, Austria, France, Portugal, Germany, Slovenia, Croatia, Rumania, Cech Republik and Mexiko.
For the National Theatre in Trieste he conducted the contemporary opera “Il canto del cigno – The swan song” by Giampaolo Coral.
His discography encloses publications for relevant international labels:
with the Philharmonia Orchestra of London he recorded in 2003 four Symphonic poems by Liszt for the Italian label “Real Sound”. The Austrian label Gramola of Vienna released a beautiful CD of Mahler and Wagner Songs called “Urlicht” with the mezzo-soprano Barbara Hölzl and A. Martinolli D’Arcy conducting the Wuertembergische Philharmonie. In 2009 the German label “Solo Voce” of Köln released the first word recording of Franz von Suppè’s Missa Dalmatica conducted by Adriano Martinolli. In 2013 the German label CPO released a double Cd of the Requiem-Oratorium “Extremum Judicium” by Franz von Suppè, recorded at the head of the Orchestra and Choir of the Graz opera house.
All the recordings and especially this double CD received numerous good reviews by the international critics.
Adriano Martinolli D’Arcy is very envolved in the contemporary music field: he conducted numerous concerts for the most important European Festivals such as Aspekte Salzburg, Biennale Musica Zagreb, Prag Europe Festival, The New Music Week of Bucarest, Spazio Musica of Cagliari, Mittelfest, Arnold Schönberg Center of Vienna, conducting groups such as Cantus Ensemble Zagreb, the GMCL, Grupo de Musica Contemporanea de Lisboa and the Chromas Ensemble of which he has been for a long time the principal conductor.
He edited the scores of the romantic opera “The sailor's return” and of the extense Requiem-Oratorium “Extremum Judicium” by Franz von Suppè.
After a long research work he brought out two volumes of Antonio Illersberg’s (1882 – 1953) unpublished music.
He has been teaching Orchestra conducting at the Music Conservatories in Cagliari and in Milan; actually he is teacher at the National Music Conservatory in Trieste (Italy) for Choir conducting and choral repertoire.
He speaks fluently four languages and he has been designated Honorary Consul of Portugal by the Italian Foreign Office.
